My Podcast Experience

I decided to create a podcast called “Melomania”, inspired by my love for music. According to the dictionary online, melomania can be described as an abnormal or excessive love for music. I would definitely use this fun word to describe my love for music. I have always been a devoted fan of music, starting out when I was in junior high. On this podcast, I hope to just converse about music, what it means to me, what I love about it, as well as different artists and genres of music. There are so many aspects to music, it is a topic that I could go on forever about. My goals going into this were to create an awesome podcast about a topic I was passionate about, and to sound relaxed and charismatic throughout the episodes. I have a history of talking in a monotone during recordings, so I definitely wanted to focus on that and get rid of it during this project.

My production process started out by coming up with a topic that I was super passionate about and could talk about for hours on end. Thankfully, I had a lot to choose from but the most broad topic I found was music. I then came up with a name for the podcast and created some art for the cover. I channeled my feelings of music and put them into a picture, which was a really fun experience for me during this project. I then came out with outlines for a few episodes and different topics to talk about. I came up with a few different questions/things to bring up in the podcast as well as a timeline so I could keep my thoughts in an organized manner. I did this for two episodes, one about the 1975 and one about the genre as a whole, opera. I decided to then bring my husband on to the podcast because of his vast knowledge on these two things, which ended up being a great decision. I went over the outline with him so he would also have his thoughts in an organized manner. At first, we did a few practice rounds of our conversation so when we recorded it, it would sound more natural and smooth. We looked at the outline and the music on our phones in order to refresh our memory. After practicing and testing our voices on garage band, it was time to start the recording process. We recorded the podcast on garage band, where I was able to edit if needed. I then found royalty free music on the internet and used that as introduction/background music. I sewed it all together and exported it on I-Tunes. From there, I was able to upload it all to Anchor.fm and fill out any of the needed metadata. I published it after all the necessary content was included! I made sure to include my cover art and descriptions for each of the podcasts. I made the descriptions short and sweet, because that is something I enjoy when browsing different podcasts. Short, sweet and to the point.

Overall, this was such a FUN experience for me. I loved being able to talk about topics that I am super passionate about. I listen to podcasts on the daily so I really enjoyed being able to make one on my own. I loved learning how to use garage band and editing it together. I learned that I am capable of anything I put my mind to, including being charismatic in front of microphone! It is something that I would definitely consider doing again in the future, or even making more episodes for Melomania!
